Marsh Risk Consulting
Marsh Risk Consulting is part of the world's leading insurance broker and risk advisor. The market-leading Business Continuity Management (BCM) practice has over 100 dedicated consultants worldwide.
Our clients range from small local businesses to the largest multinationals across all sectors. We have helped these clients to develop, implement, test, and enhance their business continuity capabilities, ranging from emergency response through crisis management to business recovery. We also provide help to reduce supply chain risk and to manage product recalls.
Our philosophy is to improve preparedness through a phased pragmatic approach, delivering streamlined plans that can be easily maintained. We believe in setting BCM within a wider risk management context to avoid duplication of effort and unnecessary investment.
Our consultants have been involved in the development of the British Standard for BCM, BS 25999, and Marsh has been voted winner of the 'Excellence in Business Continuity in the Insurance Industry' category at the Business Continuity Awards for the last four years.
Our services
Marsh provides advice to clients around a range of core BCM solutions, aligned to the principles of BS 25999.
Business Impact Analysis:
We help clients to identify their key products and services, using advanced quantitative methods where appropriate. We map these to the most important resources that underpin the business, and identify the priorities not only for recovery but also for other forms of risk treatment. This analysis and risk assessment forms the basis for prioritization of business continuity activity.
Plan building:
Using the results of the Business Impact Analysis, we help clients develop the strategy and plans appropriate to the nature of their business and level of maturity in risk management. Our plans cover emergency response, incident management and business recovery, and are designed to be simple to use and to maintain. Although we have a number of standard templates, we build around existing client material wherever possible.
Capability reviews:
Our review services help clients quickly identify gaps in their business continuity arrangements, which helps target investment and to plan BCM programmes. We have also developed tools to help evaluate clients’ BCM arrangements against BS 25999, and most of our consultants are trained auditors for this Standard.
Exercising:
Exercising helps clients to test their plans and train their response teams. Marsh delivers exercising approaches to test business recovery, incident management and crisis management. These range from straightforward desktop reviews through to major simulations and full drills involving actors, multi-media inputs and wider-world involvement.
Programme management:
Although BCM is largely common sense, in large organizations the management of BCM programmes can be very complex. Based on our work with many such organizations, Marsh has developed a phased approach using a comprehensive maturity model that helps clients to manage these programmes, setting realistic goals for the business and managing executive expectations.
Crisis management:
Marsh helps clients to both develop and exercise crisis management plans and to manage through a real-time crisis. The competencies required to adequately manage a crisis are very different from those required to be a competent BCM planner. We provide our clients with highly experienced professionals who have first-hand involvement in dealing with almost every conceivable form of serious incident.
Supply chain resilience:
Marsh helps clients to understand the role that suppliers play in critical business processes, to identify the risks and key impact points, and to build protection around them. Supply chain resilience often forms an element of our programme management approach, as clients broaden their definition of continuity to involve external stakeholders.
Product recall:
Marsh has specialist skills that help clients manage a product recall situation, drawing also on our crisis management and supply chain expertise. We provide not only support for planning for a product recall but also real-time support in the event of such a crisis.
