Partnership Campaigns

UPDATE: 26TH MARCH 2009
The BCI organised a briefing session for Members of the UK’s Parliament at the House of Commons in London on Tuesday 24th March. The session was chaired by Lord Cotter with speakers including Angela Robinson FBCI, Chair of the BCI, Martin Caddick MBCI, SVP at Marsh and John Tesh, Deputy Director at the UK government Cabinet Office. The Chartered Management Institute were also represented at the meeting. In addition to informing MPs about the importance of Business Continuity Management for the UK economy overall, specific advice was offered on how small businesses in their respective constituencies could benefit from BCM in the current economic downturn. The feedback received from MPs will be used to inform future formats for engagement with MPs and help build greater awareness and understanding for future legislation such as the revision of the Civil Contingencies Act expected in 2010/11. |
The BCI Partnership campaigns to ensure that Business Continuity Management(BCM) is viewed and adopted as a key management discipline in private, public and not-for-profit sectors. The Partnership is also committed to widening access to the benefits of BCM to small and medium sized businesses, who are typically most vulnerable to major disruption but do not have the time and resources available to larger organisations.
Current campaigns include:
- Working with business groups and local government to increase the adoption of BCM within small and medium sized organisations in local economies.
- Developing stronger engagement between BCM and Human Resource communities to ensure that HR policies and practical measures will serve the needs of employees in the event of a major disruption.
- Increasing awareness among politicians on the importance of BCM in helping organisations weather the current economic crisis.
- Illustrating best practice in corporate adoption of BCM.
Future campaigns will cover the following key issues:
- The promotion of BCM as a corporate governance issue.
- How BCM can be used as a tool for competitive advantage and the cost of not having a business continuity plan.
- “Horizon scanning” – How to keep abreast of a constantly changing environment.
- BCM as a framework to support the development of emerging markets.
- The development of more sector-specific guidance and applications of BCM.
- The BCM industry and stakeholders defined along with key market and industry trendS
